In January of 2011, New Friendship Baptist Church celebrated 184 years of ministry. Our congregation existed before the Liberty Baptist Association of Thomasville, the Baptist State Convention of NC or the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1827, our community was just a maze of dirt roads and scattered farms, but it was the Holy Spirit who led Elder William Dowd here and knew that almost two centuries later we would be here.
The immediate rolling hills around the church are now covered with thousands of homes. The 14 acre church property has been annexed into the city of Winston-Salem, the fourth largest city in our state with over 225,000 people. Another 245,000 people live in the suburbs surrounding the city.
It is to these nearly half million people that we have been strategically placed to carry out our Lord's Great Commission. We believe our church's purpose can be concisely communicated in these six words:
Knowing Christ - Loving Christ - Sharing Christ.
Twenty four pastors have served New Friendship in her 184 years and many other staff members have served at various times in administration, music, youth and education departments.
Currently we offer two morning worship opportunities to accommodate our growing number. We are completely full in our Sunday School Department and have strong numbers participating in our youth and children's ministries on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
We serve in a 21st century world that our 19th century founders could not even imaging in their wildest dreams. May we share their same commitment to answer God's call, to reach the lost and to leave a Christian legacy to the generations that will serve behind us here if our Lord should not return soon.
